Colloquium on English-speaking Communities: “Linking ESCQ research to policy and action”
For the third time, the ETRC is joining forces with the Quebec English-speaking Communities Research Network (QUESCREN) to hold a colloquium on Quebec’s English-speaking Communities as part of the upcoming 80e Congrès de l’Acfas (the 80th annual conference of the Association francophone pour le savoir). The congress will be held May 7-11, 2012 at the Palais des congrès de Montréal (information: www.acfas.ca).
Would you like to give a formal paper on the subject, or organize a panel around a subject area? Would you like to participate in a workshop or round-table? Do you have other ideas to making this conference theme work for you? Write to Lorraine O'Donnell (Concordia) and "cc" it to Cheryl Gosselin (Bishop’s). This will allow us to develop our conference proposal to Acfas, due November 1.

Past Projects
Acfas 2011
In collaboration with the Quebec English-speaking Communities Research Network (QUESCREN), the ETRC is preparing a sequel to its successful 2010 colloquium on issues concerning Quebec’s English-speaking communities.
The two-day colloquium, New Research Program on Quebec English-speaking Communities, will be presented as part of the 79th annual conference of the Association francophone pour le savoir (Acfas) that will be held jointly by Université de Sherbrooke and Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke in May 2011.
Acfas 2010
In May 2010, the ETRC co-sponsored a conference on current research on Quebec’s Anglophone communities. Lorraine O’Donnell, research-coordinator for the Quebec English-speaking Communities Research Network (QUESCREN), and Cheryl Gosselin, ETRC President, hosted a two-day multidisciplinary colloquium entitled Quebec’s English-speaking Communities: Current Issues and Future Trends. Some thirty papers were selected and distributed among eleven thematic sessions on topics including identity, community development, ethno-religious subgroups, demographics, health, history, language, and culture.
ETRC president Cheryl Gosselin was the convenor for a round table discussion on a project carried out by the Townshippers’ Association to promote community development from the bottom up. A dialogue on Community Search Conferences ensued, which analyzed the successes and failures of the initiative. All the presentations were part of the annual conference of the Association francophone pour le savoir (Acfas) that was held in Montreal during the week of May 10 to 14.
In collaboration with Claude Charpentier, Editor-in-chief of JETS/RECE, the organisers of the colloquium will publish the proceedings in an upcoming volume of the Journal of Eastern Townships Studies (JETS)/Revue d’études des Cantons-de-l’Est (RECE).
2006
The proceedings from the 2006 colloquium entitled Glocal Rural: The Changing Cultural Landscapes of the Eastern Townships were published in JETS/RECE 29-30, a special double-issue.
2005
The proceedings from the 2005 colloquium entitled The English-speaking Community: Coming? Going? Staying?, sponsored jointly by the Townshippers' Association and ETRC, in collaboration with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) were published in JETS/RECE 26, a special issue.
