The Archives Department provides the following services

  • Research support for academic researchers, journalists, etc.
  • Research support for genealogists searching, in person, for ancestors from the Eastern Townships.
  • Distance research support for genealogists searching for ancestors from the Eastern Townships.  Requests conducted by the Archivist requiring approx. 15 minutes or less are free of charge, requests requiring more than 15 minutes may be arranged with the Archivist. Please see our Research Services Policy and Request for Research Services form for more information.
  • Use of the Eastern Townships Collection of Bishop’s University Library (situated in the Old Library) is free at all times. The Old Library is open Monday-Friday, 9:00AM-12PM and 1PM-4:30PM.
  • Reproductions, digital and print, of various sources for publications and research studies (paid services, please see our price list for rates).
  • Support for regional not-for-profit organizations, individuals, and families on the preservation and organization of their records.

    How to order reproductions

    If you would like to order print or digital reproductions of materials held by the ETRC, please contact the ETRC Head Archivist by email or 819-822-9600, extension 2261.

    Fees for reproductions are outlined in our Price List. An invoice will be issued to the individual or company placing the order and print or digital reproductions will be provided upon receipt of payment.

    To make a request for reproductions, please specifically provide:

    • the title(s) of the fonds that the item(s) belong to;
    • the title(s) of the specific item(s) to be reproduced; and
    • link(s) to the specific item(s)’ descriptions in the Eastern Townships Archives Portal (townshipsarchives.ca), if applicable.
